Get The FoNE - Full Series (Aug 17, 24, 31, & Sept 7)
Get the foundations of non-formal education (The FoNE) in this 4-session series. Learn together with and from a diverse cohort of educators of K-12 programs across disciplines, experience levels, geographic locations as you develop the building blocks of an impactful and rewarding educator practice.
Each week begins with a synchronous session on Monday where you’ll learn the what, why, and how of each topic, and participate in whole- and small-group activities to prepare you to apply your learning in your specific context.
You’ll have access to a cohort-exclusive resource hub, the FoNEbook, where you can find session recordings and materials as well as additional learning supports, and where you can communicate during the week with your cohort and the instructor to ask questions, share successes and challenges, and reflect on your experience as you try out what you learned.
By the end of the series, you’ll have experience putting your skills into action, creating a strong foundation for you to build on as you continue to grow in your educator practice; not to mention a community of educators who are there to support you!
The 4-session series includes:
Aug 17 - Building Community and Connection
Laying the groundwork for a meaningful learning experience, no matter how much time you have with your group
Aug 24 - Habits of an EFFECTIVE Educator
The instructional basics for ensuring learner engagement, behavior management, so that your programs go the way you planned and have the impact you want
Aug 31 - Habits of a RESPONSIVE Educator
Anticipating, reading, recognizing, and responding to diverse learners’ social-emotional and academic needs, so that learners and groups feel seen, heard, and successful
Sept 7 - Habits of a COLLABORATIVE Educator
Communication, relationship building, and leadership of the participating adults - classroom teachers, chaperones, your colleagues and volunteers - so that everyone works together as a collaborative team for the success of the learners.
This series is designed for educators who facilitate K-12 programming at museums, zoos, conservation orgs, arts orgs, and other community-based orgs.
